BIOSPHERE2
While looking up things to do in Tucson, AZ, I came across this baby - the Biosphere2. I studied environmental science, so being able to see different environments in a dome sounded pretty interesting!
They have you download an app upon arrival (or before) which has stopping points corresponding to signs around the property with videos to click on as you go. If you’re not tech-savvy (doubtful if you’ve made it to my blog) or don’t have a smartphone, this current COVID-style tour is NOT for you. Definitely wait until they start up in-person tours again.
They did a good job and the videos are pretty short (about 30 seconds to 2 minutes). You will learn a lot but not be bored or bogged down with details. It does cost $ to get in, but it goes to a good cause: https://biosphere2.org/
Some pretty cool upcoming experiments are focusing on the ocean and getting coral back in there, as well as adding plants to the incline they have set up to measure groundwater and what happens to it after it leaves the surface. I’m not against going back when they have more things in place to see!
Days leading up to this trip, a few people mentioned to me that a movie was made here, called the Bio-Dome. SO naturally I had to check it out after I went. Turns out, it was NOT filmed here, but in Van Nuys, CA. And it was a terrible movie IMO. Lots of brain cells died while trying to watch it - sorry!
Would you live in the Biosphere? I think I would for a little while - if you’re doing OK during COIVD isolation, you might be OK in a biodome :P
